Mike Harden has always loved the ocean. As a Coast Guard captain, former tugboat and barge operator and licensed lobster fisherman, the water has been a big part of his life. Now, Harden has channeled that interest into a food truck and catering business, LobsterCraft that specializes in things lobster – rolls, bisque, and salad.
While Harden has been an avid seaman, his life was once much different. He had a career at a toy company. As a project manager, he travelled extensively to Hong Kong to oversea 27 different factories. “While this was a fast-paced life that suited me when I was young,” says Harden, I wanted to make a change once I married and started a family.” Leaving the toy business, he decided to return to his love, first working on a lobster boat in Long Island Sound, then purchasing it and running it himself when his boss retired. When the lobstering in Long Island took a beating, Harden’s wife suggested he use his cooking skills to start a catering business and LobsterCraft was born.
Starting out in 2012, Harden shared recipes with his family and friends, settling on his favorite to create his menu. LobsterCraft offers a variety of lobster rolls, spicy lobster bisque and lobster mac and cheese, among other seafood delights. He found an old food truck in a cornfield, rebuilt it and began selling items from the truck as well as catering.
The business has expanded since. Harden added another truck and sells all over Fairfield County from May to October. During the winter months, LobsterCraft sells directly to companies, private parties and other catering opportunities. Recently, the company has begun catering in Westchester as well as Connecticut. Harden says he’s also looking at space in the Wall Street area of Norwalk for a possible brick and mortar option for patrons.
“Customers can get deliveries or book the truck for corporate events, private parties and weddings,” says Harden. “In season, when the trucks are out, people can find where we’ll be that day with our handy app. PinMyTruck.com tells you where we are each day and gives directions. Folks can also get the info at our website.”
If you would like LobsterCraft to deliver to your company lunch or want to book the truck to cater your next event, contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org or (203) 856-2635 or book the truck on the website at lobstercraft.com.
