Each year, about 4 million people seek treatment for substance abuse. The number of people suffering from addiction and not receiving treatment is about five times that number.[1] If you know someone who is in need of treatment, there is a great option in our area, Mountainside Treatment Center. Mountainside provides a full continuum of care with an inpatient detox, residential program and extended care living treatment center on a 120-acre mountainside retreat (hence the name) in Canaan, Connecticut that was established 25 years ago. They also operate outpatient treatment facilities in Wilton, CT and Chappaqua, NY plus a recovery coach support office in New York City.

“Our multi-disciplinary team of skilled addiction treatment professionals provide an integrative care model for both adults and adolescents, including traditional therapy such as CBT, DBT and 12-step and group therapy, as well as mindfulness, yoga and meditation to cultivate total wellness-mind, body and spirit,” says Thea Ross, Head of Community Relations Development at Mountainside in Wilton and Chappaqua outpatient offices. “We work collaboratively in the community with therapists, physicians, religious leaders, employers, lawyers and so many more to build networks of support as our clients embrace change and begin to redefine what it truly means to live a healthy life free from drugs and alcohol.”

The Wilton Mountainside location was chosen because of its central location to clients from west and southwest Connecticut, says Ross. “We needed a convenient outpatient office that offers intensive outpatient groups, medication assisted treatment and recovery coaches so people can get back to their lives, work, raising a family, etc. as they maintain sobriety and building out a personal path to recovery.,” says Ross.

Other important services at Mountainside Wilton include help for families. There is a free support group for families every 2nd Wednesday of the month in the evenings. “Substance use disorder can shatter family relationships and for many people, family is an essential component to someone’s recovery. That’s why we incorporate family therapy and programming into our services. We encourage families to learn how to deal with a loved one in treatment, and to take care of themselves,” explains Ross.

“We want to be that resource in the community that provides a soft landing for those seeking treatment and offers critical information for their loved ones,” says Ross. “Everyone knows someone who has struggled with addiction. It affects people no matter where they live, no matter their socio-economic status. We provide hope, treatment, counseling and support services so people can maintain sobriety and live a healthy, fulfilling life free from drugs and alcohol.”
