Norwalkers and Chamber members have the opportunity at this year’s Mayor’s Ball to support one of the best-kept secrets in Norwalk, Malta House. Located off East Avenue across from Saint Thomas Church, Malta House is a place for young women who find themselves pregnant and have nowhere or no one to turn to.
Malta House is so much more than a shelter. For nearly 20 years, the organization has provided a nurturing home environment, support services, and independent living skills to pregnant and parenting mothers of all faiths and their children. Mothers at Malta House receive on-site counseling, financial education, parental development followed by transitional and post-resident support. With the organization’s help, a high percentage of the women living at Malta House eventually go on to further their education, gain employment, and live on their own.
These services are provided without government assistance. Malta House relies on fundraising events, and loyal donors whose hearts have witnessed the lives of young women who once lost their way, transition into fruitful, responsible young citizens.
Malta House will be recognized (along with Family & Children’s Agency) at the 2017 Norwalk Mayor’s Ball. The 2017 Mayor’s Ball will be held on Friday January 27 at the Italian Center in Stamford. For tickets call Maritza Alvarado at 203-854-7950 before Friday Jan 20. Donations of silent auction items produce the major portion of the Mayor’s Ball proceeds, and can be made by calling Sally Johnson at 203-854-7707.
If Chamber members can’t attend the Mayor’s Ball and would like to support Malta House, they can donate online at www.maltahouse.org. For additional information, contact Maria DiPierro, interim Executive Director, at 203-857-0088.
