On January 10th, get a handle on the prospects for the economy and your business in the New Year at the 2017 Economic Outlook and Development Review Luncheon. The Review Luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at The DoubleTree Hotel, 789 Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk. Leading economists will examine the current state of the economy, and what the expectations and trends may be for the years ahead. Attendees will also learn about the latest projects and plans for economic development in Norwalk.
Featured speakers at the Review will include Peter Gioia, Vice President and Economist at the Connecticut Business & Industry Association as well as Dr. Lucjan Orlowski, Professor of Economics at Sacred Heart University. Also speaking will be Elizabeth Stocker, Director of Economic Development for the City of Norwalk, who will discuss the status of numerous projects around the city. Peter Gioia manages CBIA’s research department, which provides in-depth economic and policy analyses, and survey research assistance to the organization’s legal, insurance, and human resources divisions and to member companies. Gioia regularly publishes white papers and special reports on topics such as transportation, myths and facts about the Connecticut economy and state spending.
Prior to joining CBIA, Gioia was a senior consultant with KPMG. He also was a researcher for The Futures Group and the Criminal Justice Education Center. In addition, he was a budget analyst for the Connecticut General Assembly’s Office of Fiscal Analysis. Gioia holds a master’s degree with distinction in public affairs from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor’s degree in history and economics from Hobart College. Gioia was Connecticut Team Captain for USA*NAFTA.
He is a past president and member of the Hartford Area Business Economists, a member of the National Association of Business Economists, a board member of the New England Economic Project, and a board member of the MetroHartford Economic Growth Council.
Dr. Lucjan Orlowski
Prior to joining Sacred Heart University, Professor Orlowski taught at New York University and before that at the Karol Adamiecki University of Economics in Katowice, Poland. He frequently collaborates with research institutes and universities around the world. Some of his current and past research affiliations include: Research Professor at the Halle Institute for Economic Research in Halle, Germany; a Senior Fellow at the Center for Economic and Social Research (CASE) in Warsaw; a Research Fellow at the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan; a Senior Fellow at the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) at the University of Bonn.
In addition, Orlowski advises financial and government institutions in the United States and Europe. From 1998 to 2001 he served as a Member of the Macroeconomic Policy Council of Poland’s Ministry of Finance and from 2002 to 2006 as a Senior Adviser to the National Bank of Poland. He was a member of the U.S. Government Mission to Eastern Europe.
Orlowski is a member of Executive Board of Association for Comparative Economic Studies (ACES) and a member of the Advisory Council of CASE in Warsaw. He is an Associate Editor of Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, a Regional Editor of Journal of Emerging Markets and a Guest Editor of Open Economies Review and Economic Systems.
